THE IMAGE NOTEBOOK

Building a useful image reference library

A few practical habits make images easier to prepare, find and share.

Name what you want to find

Use filenames that describe the subject and purpose. A few useful words are easier to recognize than a camera-generated number.

Keep a source note

Record where an image came from, who created it and the permission that allows you to use it. A reference collection is more useful when its context stays attached.

Review your collection

Remove duplicate references and keep the images that still serve a purpose. Keep an original copy outside any hosting service.

A place for what catches your eye.

Your next collection starts with a single picture.
